Development of the model
A regional model of the atmosphere is a numerical model covering a limited area of the globe.
Figure 1. shows the geographical area within SEWA
computes its numerical forecasts. In contrast to global models which are defined on the entire
globe, and have no need for the lateral boundary conditions, the regional models are typically
driven by the global models in the sense that the global models provide the information about the
atmospheric variables along the boundaries of the integration domain of the regional model.
